I am originally from Nottingham and came up North to Preston to University in 1999. Since then I have made Preston my home and focussed on building my career as a Psychotherapist and Counsellor.
My first position was a volunteer Counsellor for a Domestic Abuse Counselling service in Chorley in 2006. I went on to manage this service for six years in which time we doubled in size and were able to offer over 500 free counselling sessions to those affected by domestic abuse per year. After having children I have returned to manage two other counselling services and have increased their capacity.
I have also worked for the Lancashire SAFE Centre for over ten years as a Crisis Worker where I support anyone who has been the victim of rape or sexual assault. My specialism has therefore developed into working with trauma and abuse whether it be acute or historic.
My Counselling experience comes from working in a GP practice, various charities and occupational health companies.
I set up Labyrinth Therapy Service in 2011 as a multifaceted private practice so I am able to bring together my skills and offer a variety of services. I mainly see clients on a one to one basis for counselling and psychotherapy at the Fulwood Therapy Centre. I also work with local organisations providing training, support and supervision to their employees and I link in with the local colleges and University where I supervise Student Counsellors and have presented at the UCLAN Diversity Conference.
My specialism is trauma and my own experience of being a parent of a child with Special Educational Needs (SEND). My aim is to make therapy as accessible as possible to people and offer more than that standard.
These are some of the areas I cover:
Abuse, Addiction, Adoption, Anger Management, Anxiety, Bereavement, Cancer, Children, Child Exploitation, Confidence, Cultural issues, Depression, Disability, Dissociation, Domestic Abuse, FGM, General counselling, Health issues, Identity problems, Infertility, Loss, Men's Issues, Mental health issues, Obsessions, OCD, Personal Development, Phobias, Post-traumatic stress, Pregnancy, Rape, Redundancy, Relationships, Self Esteem, Self Harm, Sex related issues, Sexual assault, Sexuality, Spirituality, Stress, Trafficking, Trauma, Work issues.
Training
I offer Person Centred Counselling which basically means, that the person/client comes first. I do not give direct advice as I believe we each have the ability to change our own lives and reach our true potential. I am trauma informed and I also refer to myself as an integrative Counsellor as I have continued my professional development in various other models of therapy. These include, Psychotherapy, CBT, Jungian Therapy and Working with Children and Adolescents,
Professional Membership
I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) which means I work to an ethical frame work and am committed to my professional development.
